Can I apply to the StartUp Leap Competition if my startup is not an MITEF Pan Arab Alumni?

Yes, the competition is open for all registered startups globally.

I am not Emirati / Arab National, Can I still apply to the competition?

Yes, the competition welcomes all nationalities and places of residency.

Can I apply with two different Startups?

No, each team/entrepreneur is allowed only one entry.

How many candidates will be selected?

20 selected candidates will qualify to the next level of the competition and 10 winners will be selected during the winner’s announcement.

What are the stages of the program? What will the selected candidate teams participate in?

Selected candidate teams are required to attend the 2-day BootCamp, Judging, Demo Day & the winners announcement. These events will be held virtually through a platform that will be communicated with the teams in due time.

How many winners will be selected?

10 winners will be selected. However, all 20 selected candidate teams will benefit from the set range of incentive packages listed on our website.

Is it mandatory to relocate the entire office and team to the UAE?

No, but it’s mandatory for co-founders and HQ to move to UAE.

Do any of the Entrepreneurial Nation, the UAE Ministry of Economy, or MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab take equity from the winning startups?

The Entrepreneurial Nation, the UAE Ministry of Economy, or MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab will not have any ownership entitlements to the startups.

How does the Entrepreneurial Nation and/or the UAE Ministry of Economy and/or MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab guarantee the confidentiality of my idea/startup?

Our judges are requested to sign a confidentiality clause before attending the pitch. Any information provided by the teams will not be shared with any third party without the consent and approval of the concerned team.

Does the Entrepreneurial Nation and/or the UAE Ministry of Economy and/or MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab own my idea after applying to the competition?

The Entrepreneurial Nation and/or the UAE Ministry of Economy and/or MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab do not claim any proprietary rights over the initiatives, technologies, or ideas that are submitted to the competition. All ideas and technologies are the sole property of the submitters.

Can a team of 1 member only apply to the competition?

To be eligible to apply to the competition, your Startup should consist of at least 2 in management or founding members, knowing that team member profiles are a crucial criteria in evaluating an application.

Can all team members attend the virtual bootcamp and demo-day?

Up to two team members can attend both virtual events. As for the Virtual Demo day and announcement of winners, everyone is welcome to register and attend.

Based on what criteria do you choose the 20 selected candidates?

Each application will be reviewed and assessed based on the following criteria:
Team: The team takes up an important part of the total grade. Judges look for experience, value added, and the relevance of each team member to the project.
Innovation: The idea must be either new, or demonstrates a marked improvement to an existing solution or a business process Financial Sustainability: The idea/project should clearly demonstrate the ability to be financially sustainable on the long term and validated within the business model.
Scalability: The idea/project should not be limited to a nationwide market. Preferably, the business should be easy to replicate regionally or globally as the company expands.
Note that 10 winners out of 20 selected candidates will get the chance to win the StartUp Leap competition after pitching to a panel of judges based on the above criteria.
